EU Wants the iPhone Equipped with USB-C. Is It Possible? -Part 2

As time goes by, the MagSafe accessory ecosystem will become more and more mature. After the charging demand is solved, data transmission will be solved through the network. After all, the Lightning interface now only supports USB 2.0 speeds, not much faster than WiFi or 5G.

It is also in line with the wireless design that Apple has been pursuing.

Moreover, the lightning interface is still a big commercial earning for Apple. If manufacturers of accessories such as charging cables want to pass Apple’s official MFI certification, they must purchase the corresponding MFI chips from Apple.

To say the least, even if Apple could not complete the non-porous iPhone in two years, there is still room for maneuver. Such stories have existed before.

In 2009, the EU and the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) took the lead and reached an agreement with 14 mobile phone manufacturers, including Nokia, LG, Motorola, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson, to make the Micro USB a standard charging interface in 2012.

The iPhone still uses the Lightning interface, but Apple puts a Micro USB to Lightning adapter in the box for its European market.

From the perspectives of business, product design, and even accessory ecology, there is still little hope for the iPhone to use the USB-C interface.
