The three-week monopoly trial of video game developer Epic Games vs. Apple has just ended. We have sorted out the nine insider stories exposed in this trial.

6. Epic Games spent millions of dollars on its PC game store

Before the trial, Epic Games vs. Apple's case documents showed that the company spent millions of dollars on its PC Game store. A large amount of money was used for expensive transactions to attract developers and consumers, including a free game program, which has won millions of new users for Epic Games and pays fixed participation fees to the developers.

Epic Games is also trying to get Sony's and Microsoft's first-party games into the Epic Games store, although it is clear that the companies have never made an agreement. Tim Sweeney, Chief Executive of Epic Games, said in testimony that he expects its store will turn to be profitable around 2024. However, the company has clearly planned several possibilities for its future.

7. Apple has benefited a lot from slow-running progressive web applications on the iPhone

Technically, there is a way to install software on the iPhone, and it doesn't have to go on the Apple App Store. After all, the iPhone, including web browsers, has a series of technologies (usually bundled in progressive web apps) designed to make the functions of applications available through browsers. With the support of Microsoft and Twitter, Google has been working hard to promote this model. But so far, the launch of mobile Safari has been slow.

We haven't received any new documents to explain the reason. However, many Apple executives have said that Apple must protect iPhone users from harmful applications. In short, Apple regards its control of the iOS software as an essential security function, which is threatened by progressive web applications. As long as this situation doesn't change, it will be hard to imagine that mobile Safari can catch up in PWA support. (Source: Tencent News)
